FAQs
How much does counselling cost in Calgary?
In Calgary, counselling fees typically range between $200–$235 per 50-minute session, based on the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta’s recommended fee schedule. At Solasta Counselling, fees may vary depending on the therapist and service type, and we’ll always review costs with you before booking
Is counselling covered by Alberta Health Care?
Alberta Health Care does not cover counselling with psychologists or therapists in private practice. Many clients use extended health benefits, workplace insurance, or employee assistance programs (EAPs) to help with costs. We recommend checking with your provider to see what’s included in your plan.
What’s the difference between a counsellor and a therapist?
In Alberta, a psychologist is a regulated health professional with advanced graduate training and registration through the College of Alberta Psychologists. A counsellor or therapist may also hold graduate-level training but may not have the same licensing or ability to diagnose. Both provide support for mental health, but psychologists can conduct formal assessments in addition to therapy.
What types of therapy do you offer at Solasta Counselling?
We offer a wide range of therapies to meet different needs, including individual counselling, couples counselling, child and teen therapy, EMDR, and psychological assessments (ADHD, autism, psychoeducational). Each therapist brings unique specialties, ensuring clients can find the right fit for their goals.
How can I access free or low-cost counselling in Calgary?
While private practice counselling is typically fee-for-service, there are affordable options in Calgary. Some community agencies and university clinics offer free or reduced-cost therapy. At Solasta Counselling, we also provide sliding scale sessions and have counselling interns (graduate students under supervision) who offer therapy at a lower cost, making counselling more accessible.
Do you offer virtual or in-person counselling sessions?
Yes. We provide both in-person sessions in Calgary and secure online sessions across Alberta and beyond. Virtual counselling is a flexible option if you live outside Calgary, prefer convenience, or want to access therapy from home.
