Circle of Security Parenting Group in Calgary

Parenting Can Be Hard When You're Not Sure What Your Child Needs From You

Sometimes your child needs comfort. Sometimes they need room to explore. Sometimes their behaviour leaves you wondering what on earth they’re actually asking from you.

Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) gives parents and caregivers a practical way of making sense of those moments.

Rather than focusing simply on stopping difficult behaviour, COSP helps you look underneath the behaviour and better understand the emotional and relationship needs your child may be communicating.

What is Circle of Security Parenting?

Circle of Security Parenting is an attachment-based parenting program built on decades of research into parent-child relationships.

The program uses a simple visual framework—the “Circle of Security”—to help parents understand when children need the confidence to explore their world and when they need to come back to a caregiver for comfort, reassurance or connection.

Through videos, discussion and guided reflection, parents learn to recognize these needs more clearly, think about their own responses, and develop new ways of responding when parenting gets difficult.

Meet Your Facilitator:

Josephine Enechukwu

Registered Provisional Psychologist · Certified Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator

Josephine brings more than 25 years of experience working with children, youth and families to this group.

She is a Registered Provisional Psychologist, a Certified Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator, and has additional training in Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). Josephine has supported more than 100 parents and caregivers through COSP groups and individual COSP-informed work.

Her experience means that the group isn’t simply about working through parenting material. Josephine can help participants think about how the ideas apply to the complicated, frustrating and very real situations that come up in family life.

As both a clinician and a parent of teens and a young adult, Josephine also understands that parenting challenges don’t disappear once children get older.

Who is This Group For?

This group is for parents and caregivers who want to better understand their child’s emotional needs and strengthen their relationship with their child.

You do not need to be experiencing a crisis or have a child with a diagnosis to participate. Parents often come to COSP because they want to feel more confident responding to behaviour, big emotions, conflict, separation, independence or moments when connection with their child feels difficult.
