Multilingual Counselling Calgary
Being able to speak in your first language during therapy can make all the difference. The right word doesn’t always exist in a second language for what you’re carrying — and that gap can become a real barrier between you and the support you need.
Solasta offers counselling in Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Igbo, Yoruba, and French, alongside English — with clinicians who bring both language fluency and genuine cultural understanding to the work, not just translation.
Arabic Counselling — with Souhad Al-Shorafa
Souhad Al-Shorafa, a Registered Provisional Psychologist, provides counselling in both Arabic and English for children, teens, adults, and families — with a particular focus on immigrant parents navigating cultural differences and children on the autism spectrum.
Souhad integrates evidence-based approaches like CBT, emotion-focused work, and strength-based strategies with deep cultural awareness. She recognizes how immigration, cultural adjustment, and intergenerational differences can affect family life, and tailors her approach to respect both heritage and new contexts. She has a particular passion for working with children on the autism spectrum, supporting both children and their parents with strategies for emotional regulation, communication, and day-to-day challenges — and her counselling also extends to adults facing stress, anxiety, or life transitions, teens navigating identity or school pressures, and couples strengthening communication.
Urdu and Hindi Counselling — with Misha Waheed
Misha Waheed, a Registered Psychologist with over 10 years of experience, offers therapy in Urdu and Hindi, alongside English — for individuals, couples, families, and children.
Misha’s approach is client-centred and culturally informed, drawing on EMDR, CBT, DBT, ACT, and Narrative Therapy, tailored to each person’s background, values, and goals. She has a particular focus on trauma — as a certified EMDR therapist, she supports individuals, including children and adolescents, in processing difficult experiences. She understands how immigration, cultural identity, intergenerational differences, and minority stress can shape mental health, and her counselling extends to adults navigating anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic illness, or major life transitions, teens working through identity and belonging, and couples and families strengthening communication.
Misha also offers psychoeducational and ADHD assessments, with a culturally informed understanding of how neurodevelopmental differences present across different backgrounds.

FAQs
Do I have to do the whole session in my language, or can I switch between languages?
Whatever’s most comfortable. Many clients move naturally between English and their first language within the same session — our multilingual therapists work fluidly across both and won’t ask you to stay in one or the other.
Will my therapist understand my cultural background, or just the language?
Both matter, and our multilingual clinicians bring genuine cultural understanding alongside language fluency — not just translation. That includes how immigration, intergenerational differences, and cultural context shape family life, relationships, and mental health.
Can my child have sessions in Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Igbo, Yoruba, or French?
Yes — several of our multilingual therapists work with children and teens directly in these languages, using age-appropriate approaches.
Is multilingual counselling covered by insurance?
Sessions with a Registered Psychologist are covered by most extended health benefit plans. Solasta offers direct billing to 30+ insurers. Visit our fees page to confirm pricing and coverage.
Is this available online?
Yes — multilingual counselling is available online across Alberta, as well as in person at our Calgary office.
