Quebec Counselling

Solasta Counselling’s Alberta-registered psychologists provide secure online counselling to adults, teens, couples, and families across New Brunswick — Saint John, Moncton, Fredericton, Dieppe, Miramichi, and communities throughout the province. New Brunswick is Canada’s only officially bilingual province, and sessions are available in English with any of our clinicians, and in French with David Tamagi, a Registered Psychologist on our team.

The Regulatory Basis: How This Works Across Provinces

Psychology is regulated province by province in Canada, and Quebec’s regulatory body — the Ordre des psychologues du Québec (OPQ) — operates under its own professional order system. What makes online counselling possible for Quebec clients is a Memorandum of Understanding between the College of Alberta Psychologists and the OPQ, allowing our psychologists to provide online counselling to Quebec residents without separately registering there.

Alberta’s College remains primarily responsible for oversight and complaints about our psychologists under this agreement, while the OPQ retains authority over services delivered to clients within Quebec. Our psychologists follow Quebec’s specific legal and reporting requirements throughout — the agreement changes where you’re registered, not which province’s rules govern the work.

As with our Nova Scotia and New Brunswick services, this arrangement covers counselling specifically. Formal psychological assessments — ADHD, autism, psychoeducational — aren’t available virtually across provinces and require an in-person appointment at our Calgary office.

Who We Work With

Psychologists offering Quebec  counselling work with:

Children and Teens Who May Be Struggling with School, Friendships, or Emotions

Children and teens often face challenges at school, in friendships, or in managing their emotions. A psychologist can help young people build coping skills, improve self-esteem, and navigate difficulties in a supportive environment. Counselling provides a safe space to talk openly and develop strategies that support both academic and social success.

Adults Facing Stress, Anxiety, Depression, or Life Transitions

Many adults in Quebec turn to online counselling when stress, anxiety, or depression starts to interfere with everyday life. Others seek support during significant life transitions such as career changes, relationship challenges, or loss. Meeting virtually with a psychologist can provide clarity, practical coping strategies, and renewed direction when life feels overwhelming.

Couples Seeking to Strengthen Communication and Connection

Relationships can be deeply rewarding but also complex. Couples counselling with a psychologist helps partners strengthen communication, resolve conflicts, and rebuild connection. Whether facing recurring disagreements or simply wanting to grow closer, couples can benefit from guidance that fosters healthier patterns and deeper understanding.

Families Wanting to Improve Relationships or Address Conflict

Family dynamics can be difficult to navigate, especially when conflict, stress, or communication breakdowns occur. A psychologist can help families develop healthier ways of relating to one another, work through challenges together, and create a stronger sense of unity. Support is tailored to each family’s unique circumstances and goals.

Professionals and Students Looking for Support in Managing Stress, Attention, or Performance

Workplace and academic demands can take a toll on mental health. Professionals and students often seek help with managing stress, improving focus, or addressing challenges such as ADHD or burnout. Psychologists can provide strategies to enhance attention, build resilience, and improve performance while maintaining balance and well-being.

Individuals Seeking CBT for Anxiety, Stress, or Depression

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one of the most widely researched and effective approaches for addressing challenges like anxiety, stress, and depression. Through online Quebec counselling, psychologists guide clients in recognizing unhelpful thought patterns, reframing negative beliefs, and practicing healthier behaviours. This structured, goal-oriented method helps individuals build resilience, improve emotional regulation, and create lasting positive change.

English-speaking expats and transplants

People who’ve relocated to Quebec for work or family and are looking for therapy in English specifically, which can be harder to find locally depending on where in the province you are.

How often will sessions happen?

Weekly is common for building early momentum, though biweekly or a more flexible schedule works for many clients. This gets worked out together with your psychologist, not imposed as a fixed protocol.

What’s the first session like?

Your psychologist gets to know your background, your current situation, and what you want out of therapy, and you’ll set some initial direction together. It’s the foundation for the work that follows, not the work itself.

When will I notice a difference?

Timelines vary by person and concern, but most clients describe a shift in perspective within the first handful of sessions.
