Complimentary Consultation Calls at Solasta
Not sure where to start? Here’s a quick way to think about it: a psychological assessment is a structured process — testing, standardized measures, and a written report — used to answer a specific question, like whether someone has ADHD, autism, or a learning disability. Counselling is ongoing talk therapy with a clinician, working through what’s going on over a series of sessions, without formal testing or a diagnostic report. If you’re looking for support and someone to talk to, you want counselling. If you need a specific question answered through formal testing, you want an assessment.
Whichever one applies to you, the first step is the same: a free consultation. We offer three kinds, depending on what you already know and what you still need to figure out.
Assessment or Counselling? Here's the Difference
It’s worth being clear on this before you book anything, because it decides which consultation path is right for you.
An assessment exists to answer a specific diagnostic question — does this person meet criteria for ADHD, autism, or a learning disability — through structured testing, standardized measures, and a written report you can share with schools, employers, or other professionals. It has a defined endpoint: you walk away with an answer and a document.
Counselling doesn’t produce a diagnostic report. It’s an ongoing working relationship with a clinician, built around whatever you’re carrying — anxiety, a relationship strain, grief, a life transition — worked through over a series of sessions at whatever pace makes sense for you.
Neither is “better” — they answer different questions. Some people need both. If you’re still unsure which applies to you after reading this, that’s exactly what Path 3 below is for.

How Free Consultations Work
Every consultation is free and comes with no obligation to continue. Which one you book depends on where you’re starting from.
Path 1: Considering a Psychological Assessment
If you’re wondering whether you or your child might have ADHD, autism, a learning disability, or another condition that formal testing could clarify, this is your starting point.
Book a free 20-minute call directly with one of our assessing psychologists. On that call, you’ll talk through what you’re hoping to learn, ask any questions you have about how the assessment process works, timelines, and cost, and — if it makes sense to move forward — get booked with a qualified clinician for the full assessment. There’s no referral or intake form required before this call.
Book your free assessment consultation online, or call 587-487-7015 / email admin@solastacounselling.ca if you’d rather talk it through first.
Path 2: Looking for Counselling, and You Already Know Who You’d Like to See
If you’ve already found your person — through our Find a Therapist tool, by browsing our team page, or from a referral — you don’t need to call anyone first or go through intake. Just book a free 20-minute consultation directly with that clinician. It’s a chance to get a sense of fit — how they work, whether their approach feels right for you — before committing to ongoing sessions.
Browse therapists and book directly, or go straight to online booking if you already know their name.
Path 3: Looking for Counselling, But Not Sure What You Need or Who’s the Right Fit
This path is specifically for counselling — if you’re exploring an assessment instead, use Path 1 above.
Call us, and you’ll speak directly with a member of our client care team, Tianna or Maya. Here’s what that call looks like:
You’ll talk through what’s going on for you and what kind of support you’re looking for — whether that’s a specific concern, a particular therapeutic approach, scheduling needs, or simply “I don’t know where to start.” They’ll help you figure out what makes sense using their knowledge of our full team — each clinician’s specialties, approach, and availability. From there, you have two options: get booked directly into an appointment with the counsellor they recommend, or, if you’d like to talk with that counsellor first, set up a free 20-minute consultation call with them before committing to anything.
Call 587-487-7015 or email admin@solastacounselling.ca.
Why Start With a Free Consultation?
No Cost, No Obligation
Every consultation path above is free, whether it’s a 20-minute call with a specific clinician or a conversation with our client care team. Booking one doesn’t commit you to anything beyond that conversation.
A Chance to Ask Questions First
Whether your questions are about the assessment process, what a first counselling session looks like, cost, or direct billing, a consultation is the place to ask before you’re sitting in a first full session.
You Don’t Have to Know Exactly What You Need
Path 3 exists specifically for people who aren’t sure yet. You don’t need the right words for what you’re going through, or a specific request, before you call — that’s what the conversation is for.
Get Matched With the Right Fit
Rather than guessing which of our clinicians might be right for you, our client care team can match you based on specialty, approach, and availability, drawing on a level of detail about our team that isn’t always obvious from browsing bios alone.

FAQs
Is the consultation really free?
Yes — every path above, whether a 20-minute call with a specific clinician or a conversation with our client care team, is free with no obligation to book anything further.
Do I need to know whether I want an assessment or counselling before I call?
No. If you’re unsure, Path 3 is built for exactly that — our client care team will help you figure out what makes sense based on what you describe.
How long does a consultation call take?
Most consultation calls are about 20 minutes. A call with our client care team (Path 3) may run shorter or longer depending on what you need to talk through.
What if I book a consultation and decide it's not the right fit?
That’s exactly what the consultation is for. There’s no obligation to book anything further, and if it’s not the right fit, our client care team can help you find someone who is.
Can I book a consultation for my child?
Yes. If you’re exploring an assessment for a child, Path 1 applies — book a free consultation directly with one of our assessing psychologists. If you’re looking for counselling for a child or teen, Path 3 will connect you with the right clinician.
How do consultation calls happen?
Consultations are typically done over the phone, so there’s no need to set up video or come into the office for this initial conversation.
